RUDEN MCCLOSKY ATTORNEY THOMAS MULLIN DESIGNATED A LEED ACCREDITED PROFESSIONAL BY THE U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL

June 9, 2008

Thomas Mullin, a land use attorney with the Ruden McClosky law firm, has been designated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) by the United States Green Building Council (USBGC). The LEED Green Building certification has become the recognized standard for measuring building sustainability. Professionals who are involved in the planning, design and development of sustainable buildings and who demonstrate knowledge of green building and the LEED rating system and process may pursue the LEED AP Certification. Mullin is one of only 17 attorneys in Florida to achieve the designation.

“Many of our clients who are developers and contractors are focusing on recent new regulatory requirements for green building. Thomas’ LEED AP designation will be helpful to them in moving their projects toward LEED Certification. With the certification, they may be able to take advantage of state and local government incentives, and they will benefit from the positive exposure the Certification offers,” said Dennis Mele, a Land Use partner in Ruden McClosky’s Fort Lauderdale, Florida office.

Ruden McClosky has one of the state’s largest groups of lawyers practicing in the areas of Land Use, Real Estate, Construction and Environmental law with more than 185 attorneys practicing in 11 Florida offices.  Mullin, whose practice is focused in the area of land use and environmental law, will be working with the Firm’s clients to assess the new mandatory and incentive-based regulatory requirements and navigate the LEED Certification process for their projects.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.  Developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, -- a Washington D.C.-based, nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders-- the Rating System is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase profitability while reducing the negative environmental impacts of buildings and improving occupant health and well-being. The building certification process takes into consideration a variety of factors including the sustainability of sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
